Stunning Solar Eclipse Reflected in Water Captured by Rémi Leblanc-Messager

Rémi Leblanc-Messager captured the total solar eclipse on July 12 from the shores of the Embalse de la Cuerda del Pozo, located west of Soria. This location was strategically chosen, as it has been a favored spot for many eclipse chasers. The area provided an excellent balance of totality duration, solar elevation, and favorable weather statistics.

Originally, Leblanc-Messager had considered a mountain summit near the Atlantic coast for his observation. However, cloud cover ultimately confirmed the meteorological forecasts indicating that this region would not yield the best conditions. By opting for the lakeside, the photographer not only avoided the clouds but also discovered an exceptional backdrop for his shot.

The strength of this image lies in the reflection of the solar corona on the water's surface, combined with the silhouette in the foreground, creating a truly spectacular composition. A mountain viewpoint would likely not have allowed for such a striking image.

As the administrator of the French Astronomy Association and a passionate astrophotographer, this was also Leblanc-Messager's first experience witnessing a total eclipse. For a debut, he made a remarkable impact with a particularly successful image.

This area had been identified during the preparation for a live YouTube event dedicated to the eclipse. However, finding an observation point that offered both high-quality scenery and accessible vehicle access for equipment setup proved challenging. Leblanc-Messager managed to find the right spot and timed his shot perfectly.
