Supporting the Photon Millenium Website: A Call to Astronomy Enthusiasts
An appeal for support from astronomy enthusiasts to help maintain and grow the Photon Millenium website, dedicated to providing free astrophotography resources.

Dear astronomy enthusiasts and loyal visitors,
I would like to reach out to you to explain the reasons for my appeal for support and how your contributions will be utilized.
Since the launch of the Photon Millenium website in 2019, my aim has been to provide high-quality and useful content for all astrophotographers, whether beginners or experienced. This includes articles, tutorials, astrophotography sheets, and videos. The positive feedback I receive from you inspires me to continue developing and diversifying the content offered.
The time I dedicate to this endeavor is driven by passion and enjoyment, but it also requires financial investments, primarily related to the hosting and management of the site. Initially modest, these costs have gradually increased and now amount to several hundred euros annually.
The reasons for this rise are varied, including inflation in hosting subscriptions and associated services, as well as the transition of previously free plugins to paid options. However, the most significant factor is the positive growth of the site, which has welcomed 100,000 visitors since its inception! This traffic, combined with an ever-increasing volume of data (images, videos, etc.), has necessitated subscribing to more robust and costly plans to ensure a smooth and enjoyable browsing experience.
To enhance user comfort, I have consistently opted against incorporating advertisements on the site. Additionally, for my YouTube tutorials, I have chosen not to enable monetization to avoid the disruptive interruptions that ultimately benefit only the platform.
While such advertisements might potentially cover some of these expenses, many creators resort to paywalls, offering certain content exclusively to subscribers. However, my goal with this site and my passion for astronomy has never been to generate profit, and I do not wish for that to change. It is essential for me to provide all content free of charge to everyone, including those of high value.
I have received numerous positive messages in response to the video tutorial series on image processing, with some expressing surprise that such content is available for free when others offer less comprehensive paid videos. These encouraging responses are the best reward for my efforts and justify the work I have accomplished.
This call for donations is solely intended to help alleviate, at least partially, the financial burdens associated with hosting and managing the site, ensuring it continues to grow in the spirit of accessibility for all.
In this regard, your donations will be exclusively allocated to expenses related to the hosting and operation of the site.
It would be wonderful if these contributions could fully cover these costs. However, should the donations exceed the required amount, the surplus will be entirely reinvested to create additional content (for example, by renting a remote telescope whose raw images would be made available for a processing competition, purchasing software for testing, etc.).
Thank you immensely for your loyalty, support, and especially to those who wish to contribute to the site!
Jean-Baptiste
