Eclipse of August 12: Share Your Experience Through Photography
The countdown is on for the first of three significant astronomical events set to captivate audiences across Spain and much of Europe, including Italy. The upcoming solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, marks the beginning of this celestial trilogy, which will continue in 2027 and 2028.
Many astronomy enthusiasts, amateur astronomers, and passionate observers are expected to travel to prime locations for optimal viewing. Whether by car, plane, train, or camper, these adventurers will bring along their equipment with the aim of capturing unforgettable moments.
However, it's likely that you won’t be traveling alone. Friends, family, or fellow enthusiasts will accompany you, as observing the sky is not only an intimate experience but also one that is best shared.
Every time such an event occurs, Coelum receives hundreds of contributions from the public. These submissions often include photographs that may not always meet technical perfection, yet they possess unique value as they encapsulate irreplaceable moments.
For this occasion, we invite you to offer a different perspective. In addition to your eclipse photograph, we would like to receive a second image that captures the moment and the people you shared it with.
This could be a cheerful group photo, a selfie taken during the observation, a candid shot of a captivated observer, your pet in the eclipse's twilight, or even a portrait of you next to your telescope and camera setup. Essentially, we want to see your favorite photo from this extraordinary adventure.
Regardless of the weather conditions, we will strive to include the images submitted in the October-November issue of Coelum Astronomia. While we may not be able to publish all submissions, we will select those that are joyful, meaningful, and effectively convey the emotions of the experience, alongside their technical aspects.
All photographs must be submitted to our editorial team by August 25, 2026, in high resolution, to the following address:
Each submission should include:
- The location and time of the shot;
- The names of participants and the group or team;
- The equipment used, if applicable;
- A personal comment of up to 200 characters;
- Permission for the publication of recognizable individuals.
Please note: If minors are present in the images, parental consent is required. Alternatively, the faces of children can be blurred to maintain anonymity.
Is everything clear? We look forward not only to your eclipse photographs but especially to the images that will tell the story of how and with whom you experienced this event.
