This visual journey begins with a distant view of Pluto and its largest moon, Charon.

The video simulates a landing on a region known as Sputnik Planitia. It's important to note that the spacecraft did not actually land on Pluto; instead, it continued its journey into interstellar space. The simulation was crafted using the data collected during the flyby. While the colors in the frames were added later, they accurately reflect Pluto's true colors based on real observations. After a journey lasting 9.5 years and covering approximately 5 billion kilometers, New Horizons flew past Pluto on July 14, 2015, coming within 12,500 kilometers of the dwarf planet. Equipped with powerful telescopic cameras capable of detecting features smaller than a football field, New Horizons transmitted hundreds of images showcasing the dynamic and fascinating surfaces of Pluto and its moons.
